I am a fan of almost all the mystery writers, particularly Edgar Allan Poe, Aleixandre Dumas = (The Counte of Monte Cristo), Arthur Canon Doyle, Edgar Wallace, Agatha Christie, John Le Carre (The Spy who came in from the cold), (The day of Jackal), and a host of other UK. USA, Russian and German, Detective and Mystery writers have given us best of their work. Some three decades ago perhaps several detective magazines like True Detective etc used to be published giving stories of Crime and Detection purported to be real life crimes. What I like most about the Purloined Letter that a few stolen documents rob the peace of mind of a respectable personage. The police fail to unearth then even after ransacking the entire house. What is striking is the method psychological deduction and solution of the mystery in the most obvious place. The novel retains the readers’ interest from first to last and the way Dupin goes about in unraveling the mystery. I believe his deductive methods may have influenced Sir Doyle in developing the methods of world famous Detective Sherlock Holmes. Some readers strongly consider The Gold Bug as Poe’s master work.

Job Selection

Job: selection:

Candidates get very dejected when not selected for “Job” for which they were invited after due screening of their resume by the prospective employers. But they fail to realize a vital thing that they were before the interviewers hawking their services to the company for consideration of due compensation. In other words the represented a prospective customer intending to buy their services if find them suitable for any particular position justifying the expense of the position.

Suitability of the candidate for the position is much more important for the company rather than other attributes of the candidate(s). They neither should forget at any point of time that “customer is always right”. Besides, most of the good companies keep the resumes of candidates on their active files for some period of time for consideration for any future vacancy.

“Opportunity knocks only once”. It is in the interest of the candidates to conduct a self-analysis – cum – appraisal why they failed this time. If they perform this exercise in all honestly and objectively they will come across so may reasons which may have resulted in their failure. At the same time there will be less or no likely hood of repetition of such undesirable fate. To realize the difficulties of others you should put yourself in their shoes and strive to see things their way.
The following points should be borne in mind while self conducting this exercise:
I)Did you answer the question put in short, to the point or went around beating the bush indulging in self praise or bragging. It creates a negative attitude towards you. Be always precise, direct and to the point.

ii)Never argue with the interviewers,

iii)Did you ever over emphasize your skills. State only that which you can actually perform and show the results. In brief don’t over sell yourself.

iv)Interviewers try to help you shed your nervousness and shyness by being more informal and friendly. The word interview makes a good many veterans also nervous. But you must not forget even for a moment that you are facing an interview board and must not become personal and maintain the decorum, discipline, respect and atmosphere of the board room.

v)It is not possible for anyone to answer all the questions. Instead of answering in a round project yourself a fast and good learner

vi)It always better to imagine as many as possible hypothetical questions which may be asked in the interview. Difficult questions are asked to see how you respond and handle a difficult situation.

The days most of the good companies either mention in the advertisement itself about the company, salary and wages, perquisites and other compensations paid for the position. Additionally they provide a handbook to the selected candidates giving in details all these informations.
